Missler Software North America has launched “Lunch and Learn” seminars for Q2 2013 and beyond. During each seminar we will be focusing on specific topics to help machining and tool and die companies address key issues in the daily operation of their businesses via utilization of TopSolid 7 CAD/CAM software. Key features and benefits of TopSolid 7 CAD/CAM software will also be highlighted during each seminar.

Probably one of the most common occurances, is receiving 2 dimensional part information from customers via a print or Autocad file, and then needing to quickly,
efficiently and accurately convert that information into 3 dimensional part data that then becomes the foundation for the CAD solid model design, and ultimately for the final CAM machined part. During the May 15 seminar, we will demonstrate with TopSolid 7 CAD just how fast and intuitive it is to import 2D part data and then quickly and accurately convert that into 3D part information.

2 Axis Machining is probably one of the most fundamental machining methods utilized by machining and tool and die companies. CAM users rely on 2 axis machining for a multitude of simple parts that require initial roughing and rapid removal of the stock material. TopSolid 7 CAM provides an intuitive user interface as well as key functionality, to allow users to optimally machine quickly and efficiently utilizing this method. During the May 15 seminar, we will demonstrate how TopSolid 7 CAM can help users to truly “Master their manufacturing process” with efficient and effective 2 axis machining.

We will be conducting two seminars per month over the next 3 months (except for June due to the Amerimold show on June 12,13). One seminar will be held in the Chicagoland area and one on the road in the Midwest. The seminars will be held at local hotel conference rooms for typically 3 hours in the afternoon (12:30-3:30PM). If you would like us to consider other locations for future seminars please let us know as well. We will even consider doing seminars at companies that would like to host us. During the seminars we will be covering key features and benefits of TopSolid 7 software, and a specific highlighted feature topic – such as 2 axis machining (more topic details to come). We will have TopSolid 7 software workstations running at the seminar that attendees can play with, as well as refreshments and select giveaways. We encourage advance registration for the seminars via our website if you would like a reserved space. If you do not pre-register, seminar availability will be on a first come first served basis.

However as we feel smaller class sizes are good, we will be limiting each class size to be no more than 6-8 people per class. We are also going to be offering training on a much more frequent schedule. Classes will be available on the 2nd and 4th week of each month.

We kindly ask that you enroll for the class at least 2 weeks prior to the class. However we recommend enrolling even earlier. Once the class is full, it is full. We will do what we can to accommodate all of our customers individual requirements.

Competitive Product upgrade program to TopSolid 7

Qualifications

In order to qualify for the program, you must meet the following criteria.

You own a legal license of another cam software and can prove it by providing:

Fax or email copies of the original invoice for your purchase of that software

Fax or email copies of the invoice showing your most recent maintenance purchase

Your company resides in North America (this promotion is only for North America).

Promotion

The competitive upgrade program allows you to enjoy the latest version of our TopSolid CAD/CAM software, with its best in class technology, product features and user friendly operation. The program provides you with licenses for TopSolid 7 that are equivalent to the licenses for any current cam software that you legally own. For example, if you own MasterCam® level 1 Mill, you are qualified for TopSolid’Cam 7 lite 2D Mill. If you own MasterCam® Solids Mill Level 3, you are qualified for TopSolid 7 Standard with 2d and 3d Mill. Please contact us to see what you may qualify for.

Cost

The cost of the competitive upgrade is based on the equivalent TopSolid 7 licenses you qualify for. The calculated price per year over the 4 year period will be equal to 1/4 of the software purchase price plus a pro-rated maintenance cost over this period. For example, if you qualify for one license of TopSolid 7 Standard with 2d and 3D mill, the competitive upgrade price will be $3,805.19 each year for a 4 year term. This spreads the cost of the software out over a 4 year period at zero interest, and also provides reduced maintenance fees. After the 4th payment is made, you will own the TopSolid 7 licenses and will pay only the normal (15%) annual maintenance fee going forward. In order to find out which TopSolid 7 products you may qualify for and applicable pricing, please contact us.

Conditions

The terms for the upgrade program include a 4 year purchase plan agreement with Missler Software, Inc. After your fourth year payment, you will own the software license(s). Each subsequent year will then be a regular maintenance fee of 15%.

If you choose not to renew your payment at any time during the first 4 years, your license/s will no longer remain valid, and you will forfeit your investment in TopSolid 7. No exceptions can be made. Your renewal anniversary during the first 4 years will be the purchase date, and you will be billed automatically 30 days prior to this date each year. You will then have 30 days to pay the invoice. Once paid, you will automatically receive software renewal codes covering the next 12 months. At the end of the 4th year, you will own the software and be issued permanent codes. After owning the software you are free to choose to renew your annual maintenance as you see fit.

Again please contact us for any questions or inquires regarding this exciting new program !

The following video will introduce you to the creation of a user defined material. It even shows you how to add a standard texture to your material for realistic rendering mode.

Depending on what you are planning on using the material for, you will need to know some information about the material. For example, if you are only going to call out the material in a BOM, then the “technical” specs of the material are likely unimportant to you. So for this, you might just create a new material and then give it a name and a description. (Again, for documentation sake).

However, if you are adding the material to aid in your engineering process you will likely need to know much more. At minimum you will want to know the density of the material so that TopSolid 7 can calculate the correct weight of your part for you. However if you are creating a type of plastic, you might want to know the shrinkage factor. Or maybe you are working with tool steel, and need to specify the Rockwell Hardness, so you will need to have that information ready as well.

The point here is that TopSolid 7 gives you the tools that you need to describe the materials that you use easily and efficiently.

The video below will walk you through the creation of a custom material with a standard texture. If you have questions…feel free to leave a comment below the video.

More often than not, cam users find themselves creating a ridiculous amount of unneeded g-code due to the inefficiencies of their current software.

Wow!

That’s a big statement. And guess what? It’s true!

Why?

That’s a great question! Thanks for asking it.

In many cases they are trying to machine either the very same features across the same part or they might be machining four of the same parts at the same time, spread across different work offsets.

Let’s break it down for you.

Let’s say that you are creating a program to machine 4 identical parts in the same setup using 4 work offsets. Let’s say to completely program one part is about 25mb’s of g code.

Now let’s say you pattern your entire tool path, (because your current software lets you do this), and then you post everything out. Now your g code file is upwards of 100mb’s. (Because your current software doesn’t know how to or just doesn’t let you create and used optimized g code).

At this point, some of you might say something like “So what…what’s the big deal. File size is irrelevant.”

And maybe you’re right. But I ask you this. Doesn’t it make sense to have optimized g code? While yes it creates smaller files, it also creates more efficient g code.

Why is this important?

Let’s have another sample. Now let’s say that you have the same heavy project from above. Let’s say that your operator is running it. And he sees that you have set a bad rapid move in one section. He wants to edit this and change the value. With sub-routines he makes the edit one time. With long hand code he has to make the edit multiple times and runs the risk of making multiple mistakes. (Not to mention the amount of time it takes at a control to scan through 100mb’s of g code).

So I guess what I am saying here is that if you are not interested in optimizing your g code, saving time and overall making things easier to manage for your CNC programming, then you should stop reading this now and definitely not watch the movie below.

For everyone else…enjoy! Take the time to learn how easy it can be to truly increase your companies CNC programming efficiency. The video below will show you just how to do that.

Oh…and if you are not already a TopSolid 7 user, maybe you should be. At least you should take the time to download the trial and experience what modern cad/cam is all about. You can get it here.

In todays world of powerful computers, you can build some pretty fantastic boxes. You can load them up with Ram. You can even grab the latest processor like an Intel i7 processor. But I ask you this small question…

What good is it to have this hardware if your current Cad/Cam software doesn’t take full advantage of it?

It’s a good question…I know! Thankfully, I have the ability to show you a software that does in fact take full advantage of modern hardware. And that software is TopSolid 7. In the video below, I show you how quickly we can calculate tool path on a reasonablly heavy part. This part has more than 4000 faces on it. In the modern world of Cam, it is not so much the complexity of the geometry that slows down the calculation, but the quantity. In this sample, I use 100% of my i7 processor to crunch the tool path in a very short amount of time. Check it out!
